Science Review....."Live"
Teacher:"We just finished our Science unit on Matter......Now it is time to review for the test."

Student: "Ugh! A test!? That means we have to cram our notes and try to remember EVERYTHING we learned during this unit. Guess it will be a late night for me."

Teacher: "Always the same response. Hhmm....let's try something new"

AND A NEW REVIEW IDEA EMERGES...............
Why? Students learn and retain information more easily when they are actively engaged learners. Students must have a greater understanding of the content, in order to effectively summarize the information into visual projects. If a student is still unsure of a concept, they are forced to ask more questions and explore the concept more deeply in order to gain the knowledge necessary to complete the project. If a student is able to put the ideas into their own words and "teach" the concept, then they are truly demonstrating concrete knowledge.

Technology Tools: LiveBinders, Visual Thesaurus, Wordle, Googleforms, armoredpenguin puzzle maker, glogster, flashcardet, Youtube links

Process: Students will be divided into groups. They will be given a topic that was covered in the current Science unit. Each student group will be asked to summarize the textbook information on the given topic. They will use LiveBinders.com to compile their information. I will give students some direction on what types of information they must include, however, I still plan to leave it open for them to choose the technology tools that best expresses and displays their ideas.

Required topics:
*List concept Objectives
*Vocabulary (sample tools: visual thesaurus, wordle, crossword)
*Summary of concept (must include pictures to illustrate and/or videos to demonstrate information)
*Summary and conclusion from Labs conducted in class
*Review questions (googleforms or other quizmaking tool)

Students may also add any other activities that they feel will "teach" their topic (i.e online games, glogster)

Evaluation Rubric:

Application of LiveBinders: Students now have an interactive site of information that they can access and use as they study for the unit test. There will be videos, flashcards, crossword puzzles, review quizzes, and more to help them refresh their memory and transfer all that knowledge into long-term memory rather than just "cramming for the test".
